Learn about the unique nature of storms at sea and how to prepare for heavy weather while underway. Topics covered include vital equipment and other items related to storm preparedness, crew moral and leadership, active and passive storm tactics, setting drogues and sea anchors and survival conditions. Renowned offshore sailor John Kretschmer will also share lessons learned firsthand from a Force 9 storm this past November and three storm stories from aboard three different boats—a Hylas 46, Kaufman 47, and a Contessa 32.
About John Kretschmer
John Kretschmer has been in the breezes, as Joshua Slocum put it, most of his life. A professional sailor and writer, he is an accomplished ocean voyager, having logged more than 300,000 offshore miles. He led a long ago record- breaking voyage from New York to San Francisco by way of Cape Horn.
