CHICAGO (December 19, 2017) –  Returning to Chicago to bring a glimpse of summer fun to the city, the Progressive® Insurance Chicago Boat, RV & Sail Show®, the Midwest’s largest indoor boat show, is setting up shop at McCormick Place, 2301 South Lake Shore Drive, January 10 – 14, 2018. Featuring the top retailers in the boat, RV and sail categories, the five day event offers showgoers the opportunity to view, board and shop over 600 boats and 100 RVs, the latest in outdoor and marine accessories and technology, and the opportunity to attend an extensive boating and sailing seminar series which includes some of the biggest names in sailing.
Visitors to the 2018 Progressive® Chicago Boat, RV & Sail Show® are invited to enjoy the following features this year:
·         NEW! Progressive® Boat Club: Attendees can take the helm at Progressive’s NEW Oculus Rift virtual reality experience, putting themselves at the helm of a virtual boat race, navigating simulated waters, all while trying to beat the clock. For those looking to improve their nautical know-how the Annapolis School of Seamanship will be on deck with an array of hands-on boating courses and visitors can master docking skills at the docking pool with remote control model boats. Plus, exhausted attendees can relax, talk to Progressive experts, get a free quote and win prizes in Progressive Boat Club’s lounge area.
·         Extensive Lineup of Boating and Sailing Seminars: Over 200 boating and sailing seminars for sailors of all levels, featuring some of the most recognized names in sailing such as John Kretschmer, Nigel Calder and Brian Adams, will be offered in 2018. Full and half-day paid seminars will also make for the most comprehensive sailing education program under one roof in the United States. See the seminars page for topics and schedule. ·         Free Sailing Lessons Aboard the Sailing Simulator: An actual true-to-life sailing experience on dry land! Designed with beginners in mind, users will tack and jibe and use the tiller to keep the boat level on the show floor as fans fill the sails and move the boat from side to side.
·         Fred's Shed, FREE DIY Seminars & Interactive Learning Center: Boat owners interested in maintaining, repairing or upgrading their boat or engine can head to Fred's Shed for practical, professional advice. Free daily seminars include demonstrations on techniques and tools on boat and motor cutaways that end with Q&A sessions.
·         RV Info Center: The nation’s leading RV expert, author of The RV Handbook 4th edition, and managing editor of, David Solberg will be on hand to chat with attendees about the joys of RVing. He will also cover many topics including cool RV tools, gadgets and must-have apps, care and maintenance, things to know before you go, connecting to the campground and even traveling with pets.
·         New! Captain Bill and the Floaty Boat: New to the show this year, guest will be visited by Captain Bill as he cruises the show floor “aboard” his Floaty Boat, leaving plenty of smiles in his wake. Enjoy watching the antics as he brings to life a crew of characters including a pirate, fisherman, Hawaiian dude, ukulele singer and yacht captain Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
·         NEW! Chicago Maritime Arts Center Build-a-Boat: The Chicago Maritime Arts Center will teach show attendees how to build a boat during the show. They can construct and launch a paper model, build a tin-foil boat to enter a contest for the most in-water capacity, and use STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) skills to learn how to can build a boat with friends or at home.
·         Raingutter Regatta: The Boy Scouts of America present the show’s second annual raingutter regatta from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday. Participants propel their boats by blowing on the sail through a straw with no touching allowed. The activity is open to kids of all ages, and boats will be provided.
·         Huck Finn Trout Pond: Afavorite for children and parents alike, The Huck Finn Trout Pond, which is stocked with rainbow trout, offers free fishing for kids 12 and under.
·         Boating Skills Virtual Trainer—Test Your Boating Skills: Guests of all ages are invited to set out on a simulated “boat trip” to practice boating skills such as docking, pivot turns, stopping and more. The America's Boating Club Boating Skills Virtual Trainer is equipped with a steering wheel and real Mercury throttle to give attendees hands-on experience as they pilot a virtual boat on a lake with other powerboats, sailboats, navigation aids and a marina.
·         Corona Find Your Beach Bar & Cantina: The Corona Find Your Beach Bar & Cantina, featuring the Island Party Boat, serves up an island resort ambiance along with icy cold beverages and tasty casual fare. It is the perfect place to take a break, meet up with friends and mingle with other boat and RVers. Todd Donnelly of the Mr. Myers Band will provide musical entertainment.
·         PaddleFest: Free paddle sports demos will be offered throughout the show in an indoor pool.  Attendees can get out on the water and experience the fun of stand up paddle boarding (SUP), kayaking and other paddle sports.
Through January 10, tickets purchased online are $2 off the regular price of $15 for adults. Tickets purchased at the show are $15 for adults, and children 12 years old and younger are free.
